I took my dash apart recently in order to install my aftermarket a/c kit and to paint the dash. While back there pulling everything out, I pulled the ignition assembly off. I was not aware of the trick to use a paper clip and the key to remove it properly. At any rate, the piece came off pretty easily, however, three copper springs and retainers popped out as well. Not aware of what I did or how to put everything back together. I'm pretty sure the springs go in the black plastic piece with the retainers on top, but have no idea if that's all I need to do and how it snaps back together. Any tips, instructions, thoughts (besides the fact that I'm an idiot, LOL)? I could not find anything through searching, or in my Hayne's manual. Thanks.
You might have to replace the ignition switch. Normally when you remove the lock cylinder from the ignition switch there are only two parts, the lock cylinder and the switch body. I don't think there are supposed to be any spare parts.
If I have to replace the ignition it's no big deal. I would like to retain the same key for the door locks. Can I take the new ignition to a locksmith with my current key to have it keyed appropriately? Thanks.

You probably can,but you can buy new locks and ignition cylinder for about the same cost. I just did that with mine as my locks were getting worn and i only wanted one key. It may be different in your area though . The switch was being sold with out the key cylinder , so i went that way.

So I really just need to buy the new ignition and can keep my key cylinder, right? Good. I'll just do that. Thanks.

The cylinders are a little tricky to instal if it's your first time. You will need to use the paper clip to push the little button and turn it in position . Then line every thing up and it should go right in. Turn the key to on and pull out ,it should be locked in at that point. Good luck,
A little tricky is right. I think I would rather set the engine in again, rather than put that ignition switch in twice. I was particular about using the same switch/key since it was Pop's Truck, but if that were not the case, I would have just replaced everything at the drop of a hat.
