removing the ignition switch

I bought a 79 F250 4x4 truck that is a fixup. When I bought the truck the previous owner did not have the key since the truck sat there for 3 years. Is there a way to remove the ignition switch from the truck so I can install a new one.

You can buy a new ignition switch with a new cylinder. If you buy them both, you won't need the key to remove the old switch. Simply remove the bezel from the front of the dash and the entire switch can be pushed out and unplugged from the harness. Then plug in the new switch with the cylinder, replace the bezel, and you are good to go. You can also buy matching locks for the doors sometimes on e-bay.

Remove the switch assembly and take it to a locksmith have a key made for your switch and more than likely this new key will work on your doors having a key made by the locksmith will be cheaper than a new switch and lock assembly just my two cents worth.
