'Hard Wiring' A 4.6 Modular

fordies

anybody worked on getting a 'coil on plug'

engine to run without the computer?

i thought of mounting the crank trigger

on adjustable bracket to retard/advance timing.

i think it needs a little more than that.

fordy's

i found one distributor conversion kit.

list price $900!

let me see $200 junkyard Ford 4.6 engine and

$900 distributor?

no thanks!

these engines have been out for 15 years,

if nobody has wanted to get with it and

make a reasonable conversion kit using stock

distributor, i'm not going to mess with it.

no. way too expensive.

somebody ought to machine up

a conversion kit to run a FORD distributor

off the camshaft like the existing $900 kit does.

using the camshaft is smart, it runs at the same

speed you want to turn the distributor.

all you have to do then is 'index' it,

get #1 plug wire on #1 cylinder.

then really, have the distributor straight up

not sideways!

regards

$450 for a plug and play MSD ignition system? sign me up!

why would you rather an old technology distributor over modern technology electronic ignition?

machined parts will probably cost you more than an ECU, especially when you are trying to run a distributor vertically.

a low dollar conversion kit would

have those modular 4.6's flying

out of the junkyard!

right now the low dollar alternative is

to take all the computer related parts

and suffer finding places to mount them

in whatever you put it in.

it's making it too much hassle to

hotrod a modular 4.6!

have a nice day!

If it's such a great idea, feel free to make a kit yourself.

No one is stopping you from getting all the parts in one place, taking measurements, and having a local machine shop make you parts to do what you want. You'll learn a lot doing it. You can source gears from a vendor like Boston Gear so you don't have to cut them.

hotrod a modular 4.6!
Tell that to the thousands of people who are hotrodding them.

If you can't be bothered to learn how modern systems work that's your free choice and you can go buy a crate 302 instead because you don't NEED a more advanced engine.

The extra whitespace between your sentences is REALLY COOL, by the way. Use it in all your future correspondence so everyone can appreciate how awesome you really are.

Indeed. That's cheap. Hate to break it to those who don't understand "inflation", but 450 is only about 178 bucks in 1981 dollars. Affordable then and now.

i still think somebody ought to make a

kit to run the latest ford distributor.

it can be run off the overhead camshaft or

front of the engine.

$200 would be a good price without the distributor.

have a nice day!

performance guys

i got a little off track with the distributor conversions.

found the standalone race only coil on plug controller for modular Ford 4.6.

Mega Jolt.

it's a $175.

this is for race cars or streetrods only.

you'll need a carburetor or stand alone fuel injection.

it does not control an automatic transmission.

it's the way to go to hot rod a modular 4.6!

have a nice day!

Run a computer with keyless entry and they are pretty simple to wire up. MSD is a great choice. I would prefer not to run anything on my Ford that uses GM parts like the distributor you are talking about.
