Remote Start

I just purchased an 09' Platinum from Tomball Ford, part of the deal was installing a remote start system on the truck. Salesman told me that the heated/cooled seats and a/c would come on when I used remote start. Is the salesman lying or will the non factory equipped remote start work the a/c and seats?

On my Lariat 09 with factory remote they don't. On wife's limited 10' expedition they don't either. If they are supossed to, I don't know the procedure.

They come on with my factory-installed remote start. 2011 Lariat, FWIW.

There may be a computer update they can apply to your truck to get them working, if they're not working already. They won't fire up (heat) or freeze right away, from my experience, so sometimes it's hard to tell they're working.

They come on with my factory start on my 12 lariat. It depends on the outside temp. If it is above 85 (I believe) the cooling will come on and ifs its below a certian temp the heat will come on.

they used an avital aftermarket one on my expy and it does not do this.they told me not to get the ford factory remote start because of issues and would have a separate FOB. my remote star is built in to my key (hit lock twice), but the range absolutely sux. They originally put a 2-way remote start that had a hug key fob, but they could not figure out how to bypass the factory alarm. really a horrible experience with them. I am actually aking it tomorrow to a car audio shop to see if they can put a different 2-way in with a smaller key fob. i will ask them about integrating with the seats because that would be great. my dad's Ram has factory remote start and it does all of these things (aside from 2-way) and it works awesome at good distance.

no the heated/cooled seats will not come on for 09 or 10 model trucks. Starting in 2011 is when they upgraded the factory remote start and it turns on the seats.

you also mentioned the a/c. any remote start will turn on the a/c or heat, just leave whatever setting you want on before leaving your truck, or just leave it on Auto setting and it will turn on during remote starting.

mtondreo, sounds like you have a crappy dealer. I think the Ford systems work excellent and never had a problem with them on my trucks in the past 10 years. Typically with any system it comes down to how well it is installed.

So even if I'm having the dealer install the system (it has the new style key with buttons on it) there is no reflash or anything to accomplish this?

^I don't know how the dealer can install the new style system with the integrated buttons on the key, there would be nowhere to plug it in on a 09 truck. again that new system is for 2011-up trucks.

For 09/10, the factory remote start systems have to be hardwired into the truck (although there is a large plug-in harness and only a few wires leftover that have to be individually spliced in), there is no reflash. And they come with a separate remote fob.

On my 09, I have the Ford "Gold" system which is an alarm, remote start and keyless entry controlled by one fob. All of its wires had to be spliced into the truck (about 16 wires total).

Sounds like a case of another uninformed dealer with regard to remote start systems, it's amazing how many dealers out there are clueless when it comes to the Ford remote start systems. They usually contract the work out anyways, a local installer from a car audio shop or some place like that will come to the dealership to install the system. Although now for the 2011-up trucks, they should be able to plug in the brain unit and reflash the computer themselves without having to bring in an installer.

well I'll keep everyone informed. I wouldn't mind having the gold system anyway.

ok so got the truck back from the dealer and it has a seperate fob with two buttons on it, seems to be a location button and the start button. I think this is the 200 system, but not sure. I now have a fat pocket in my jeans and don't like it. Dealer says tough luck.....o well. Is it possible to buy the "gold" fob and program it or am I stuck with what I got?

you got the bi-directional 100 series system, the fob should also have a light on it and it gives you confirmation that the truck started. sorry but the remote fobs are not compatible between the different systems, so you're stuck with separate fobs for rmst and keyless entry.
