Remote Start

Is this available from the factory? If not what is Ford thinking? This technology is very valuable to those who reside in the northern half of the US.

I think it's been an option since 97-98 maybe. Some of the 97-03's had optional remote start.

It was always a option that you have added/installed by your dealer since the late 90's.

I think starting in 07 or 08, you could factory order a remote start, but it was listed on the order sheet as a factory invoiced accessory. I think that still means that once your truck was built and sent to your dealer, then the dealer would install the remote start.

the southern half of the US uses remote start quite heavily too... heat is just as bad as cold. I lived in arizona for 10 years, i think it's more useful in phoenix than it is in minneapolis.

It takes long to heat a cab in 0 degree weather than to cool one @100 degrees. Ride with the a/c on and the winders down for a bit then close it up and it's good. The coolant has to rise from 0 to around 150 before you get decent heat from the heater.
I would think it would be more beneficial in colder climates.

As far as I know it's not an option. Sure when you buy a vehicle and ask for aremote start, the dealer will install one. But I'm almost positive that it's not from the factory. I've never seen that option at least.

Vehicles warm up much fast while being driving then they do idling, remote start is purely for lazyness and I would never even consider one, I live in Canada too. I start my diesel and let it idle for abo 30 seconds to a minute then I'm driving it, takes about 3 minutes of driving to get it blowing warm air.

Remote start is a vehicle installed option I believe. Remote start was available for my 04' SD when I bought it, didn't get it though. Recently bought a Viper 5900 Security/Remote Start system. Aftermarket is better than factory systems anyway.

Your just like my neighbor with his 6.0l, just gets in and goes. It will catch up with you down the road. Its one thing to do it with a gasser but a diesel is another story.

That's what I meant. FACTORY installed. WHY hasn't Ford put a remote start option on their ordering forms? Most of GM products now offer the factory installed remote start. Some of their units even have this as standard equipment.

Don't know. I agree it should be a Factory option. They wouldn't have to charge much more for it, maybe $40 more than standard keyless entry.

How far down the road do you think it will take to catch up? 100,000 miles, 200,000 miles? Just curious...

..your BS meter is through the roof. hahaha

But I don't see Ford offering a remote start from the factory any time soon, nobody in a warm climate would get it and I don't see too many people here in Canada that want it. Plus, it's easy enough to install it at the dealership so I don't know why they would bother with it in the factory.
