couple of shots of the new intake and carbs. slowly getting it dialed in.
may also get a new generator/alternator as what i have isn't cutting it. barely maintaining 6volts to the battery. if i do need to replace generator then i'll scrap the 6v stuff and go with regular 12v.
ejwhitneyco.com will convert your 6 volt generator into a similar looking 6 volt 40-amp alternator. I wonder if anyone at FTE has used their service. Truck is looking phenomenal.
Wow, the truck is looking good! I'm going to give the stock 6v system a try and see how it does. I may end up switching to 12v with an alternator. Post a vid of that engine running if you get a chance. Would like to hear it.
I'm running a chev one wire alternator on the 8ba I put in my '47 2 ton last year. Not sure what I enjoy more about the swap, the way it stays fully charged and always fires off instantly, of the fun I have pissing off my purist buddies who hate seeing a modern piece of equipment 'ruining' an otherwise beautiful flattie.
Little update today. finally getting the carbs dialed in, had the air/fuel mixtures turned out way too much. read somewhere that the original carb screws were only turned out about 5/8 to 3/4 of a turn so i started at 1 full turn and it made a big difference. put some bars leak copper block seal in the radiator too see if i get rid of the coolant seeping at a few of the head studs, after about a half hour of running all seeping seems to have stopped for now. got the new bushings and spring pins for the rear and will start replacing those which should be fun, and mounting the rear lights to the frame.
got the new rear spring bushings in, had to order up 2 new spring hangers as both pin holes were oval shaped. no sense in putting round bushings in an oval hole. as a side note, only do one side at a time or the whole back end of the frame will drop down and rest on the rear diff. housing. now i'll have to use my engine lift to hoist the back of the frame up about a foot to reinstall everything. also ordered up a new set of grill bars since they seem to be in stock. been waiting a while to get them. will post pics and review of those when i get them. also believe i finally found the proper clips that hold the felt strips to the door so the glass isn't hitting metal. the clips that came with the felt strips were totally unusable for this truck. also found new shock links(dog bone) for the front suspension that should work, we shall see.
Yes, it's looking great! Will be doing the same to my rear springs after I replace about 3 broken lower leaves on each side. Only one of 4 leaf packs had no broken springs.
GB, I have the same issue with my spring packs. the bottom three plates are cracked on the the rear. but since i have 13 total i don't think it will hurt anything to remove them and tighten it back up. don't think I'll be hauling that much weight to need them anyways.
well, got the new bushings and hangers installed on the rear springs. its nice not having a half inch of slack now. fashioned up some mounts for the rear lights and got those mounted and working, of course not sure it the brake light function is working yet. having a big issue with getting the headlights and parking lights to work on the front. have 3 wires going to the front-red,green,and yellow. all 3 have power which seems a little weird. i believe the yellow wire powers the marker lights, which has 2 wires coming of it, as i can get one to work by plugging in 1 of the wires to the yellow as long as the opposite headlight is plugged in, strange. can change brightness of marker light by swapping the 2 wires, 1 plugged in 1 not.
