just replaced all 8 GP with Beru units, cold starts (even tho its 28 degress celcius outside), takes like 5 seconds of cranking to catch, sometimes coughs a little then BOOM takes off. Hot start its instant.
could it be return lines leaking ever so slightly and the fuel is draining back ever so slowly after sitting for a day or two? I do see surface cracking on the rubber lines..
5seconds for a cold start is pretty decent. It's not a gas engine, it needs to build a little heat before things start happening. My truck sits for a few weeks at a time and starts in about ten seconds.
For return lines, get a hold of typefour. You'll be happy.
my dads 85 300sd starts within 1 crank no matter how cold it is..
i was under the impressiom that with a proper working gp system fuel should ifnite instantly upon contact?
Mine fires in a heartbeat hot or cold. What does the 'wait to start' light do? Does it stay on for a couple seconds then go out, or does it go out immediately. Any clicks? How old are the batteries?
mine does the same thing. but oddly enough if you let it sit for say 3 seconds after the GP light goes out mine starts a lot quicker. donno why.
if you find out why yours cranks so long pls let me know. my dads 6.9 fires right up super quick.

Starting system all brand new with fat fat cables. Cranks very fast. Light stats on about 6 seconds. Doesnt matter if i do it isntantly or 3 seconds after that
Keep in mind how much more motor your starting then that 5 cylinder, Do you have a gear drive starter? Youd be amazed on how fast that sucker turns a motor over.
this reminds me of when i first got my truck.
to finally get my "instant" starts, cold (below freezing,no block heater) or when up to operating temp,it was the injectors for mine.
like you,i went through the GP's, tested the controller, updated cables (all of which was desperately needed.)
i still had multi second cold starts.with fresh injectors, she's been instant ever since.by instant,i mean when it's cold (i dunno down to around 0) it starts just as fast as it does on 80 degree day, once the WTS light goes out.to this day,iv never tested the block heater yet.probably shot anyway as old as it is. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...old-start.html

thats the one mine came with and the one (reman) i put back in (just recently, this summer.)
this also reminds me of another thing.
when putting my banks turbo on.i had to unravel the glow plug wiring harness to get a little extra length.
you guessed it.i see some less than ideal wire there.corrosion setting in,in this harness.too be expected though.the truck is no spring chicken lol.wont be long until my WTS duration get's altered some,if it's not already.time to run some new wires and make a new harness.
