It's time. I'm doing an oil change Sunday and I have all the parts to install a recirculating oil filter - except the spin-on filter. I don't know what micron rating to use. Does anybody have a Wix number or a micron rating?
If this is a bypass filter...in the long run, see if you can find an Amsoil bypass filter that has the same thread size. Based on my research, they seem to have the best micron filtration for bypasses when it comes to spin-on filters (2 micron absolute at 99% efficiency, IIRC). While I like their oil too, I don't really see the payback or performance difference for the price, compared to other synthetics such as Rotella Synthetic. But their spin-on bypass filter is another story.
Slightly OT: Now, I'm sure some would argue that some of the other bypass filters such as Oilguard, Frantz, Gulf Coast, and that expensive $500+ one all filter finer mircon than the Amsoil. I don't know. Doesn't matter. Just get a quality bypass of any kind. Clean oil is the key. I think it's more important than which synthetic oil you use, or even synthetic versus dino oil. CLEAN. That's what you want.

Really dont see the reason to spend that kind of dough on a NAMEBRAND" by-pass system, when Springerpops or even Wood-n-things, design, is the same, with great results.
You can build their set-up for under 50 buks. Check out the link DELUXE posted, and see the oil sample reports. Pop at 15k, shows he can run DINO oil, out even farther, but refuses too.

I couldn't agree more. The OP question was, "what filter is best." I believe the best filter is Amsoil's bypass filters, for a "spin on" system...and if you can build your own bypass for $50 that takes their filter, I'd do it in a heartbeat (beats paying $250+). There are lots of other good filters out there too, just think the Amsoil has the best filtration specs for a spin-on.
Thanks everybody! All this input gave me some ammo for research and I found a gold nugget that I wish I could do something with. [LINK] My oil project was put on hold due to an unforseen situation, but I'm working on another project instead.

How would we use that filter? I don't see a corresponding engine choice for either Ford or INTERNATIONAL
Hmmmm...that sounds like a new "full flow" filter alternative, but not a bypass filter. I believe Fleetguard makes a hybrid full-flow/bypass all-in-one filter that you spin onto your original full flow filter location. Probably a decent alternative if you don't have a true bypass installed.
