E4OD Died?
The wife was hauling hay the other day and '97 F-250 HD started smoking from underneath. Turns out it was transmission fluid flowing out from the torque converter area on to the exhaust. What will cause this? The trans is a Ford factory rebuild with 34k on it. Thanks for any help, PK.

heat is detrimental to seals.

If the vent on top of the transmission is plugged it will build pressure and blow oil through the seal,at least that is what happened to my 95 model.

Do you have a tranny temp gauge?, maybe it overheated.

We trailered it to the Ford dealer yesterday. It's 65 miles and they are a good outfit. I'll let you all know the out come. Thanks for the tips and help. PK

When they get over heated they'll dump fluid out the front seal. Sometimes if your lucky after it cools it'll stop leaking.

Thats true and exactly what I wanted to say when I asked if any tranny temp gauge.

The dealership called today and said nothing was wrong with the transmission. They filled it up with ATF did some checks and it ran perfect. Going to get it in the morning and put it back to work. Thanks again, PK.

Glad to hear, but Id change ALL the ATF and the filter, because with the heat the ATF degrades (spl?) and lose some of its properties.
Also get a Tranny temp gauge.

Sounds like a good idea. The transmission is shifting real good now. What brand of temp. gauge is best? PK

You can get the sunpro gauge at autozone and autometer at oriellys. Both are great gauges

Yes, I have read that. I don't know if it will do any good with stock size tires.
