Just another E4OD Question

With the advice from this forum I changed my tach sensor and that fixed my tach problem .It also helped my trannie shifting problem somewhat. The problem I have now is that in the morning drive to work when the temp outside is mild the trannie shifts normally, but the drive home in the afternoon when the temp is around 90 to98 outside the trannie will wind up before it shifts from first to second, all other shifts are normal.Any ideas will be appreciated.BTW it's an e4od on a 92 7.3 f350 4x4.Thanks

fluid comes to mind. but so does a bad torque converter. sometimes the fluid will thin out to much if its old and hinder the performance of the t/c and the entire tranny. has it been changed every 30k or so?

Have you checked for codes? Have you checked the FIPL? Is your trans original? How about the solenoid? There is a valve in the trans that will delay the shift as it wears. I am taking mine in next week to get it changed, since I am having similar trouble. They say it only takes about an hour or so. If you do a search on E4OD there is a lot of good info.

The trannie is just rebuilt, new converter and new fluid. It only has about 250 miles on it.I haven't pulled any codes(don't have a reader).Would a little too much fluid cause this? The P/O put on an aftermarket oil cooler which looks kinda small to me,seems like cooling through the radiator would be more effecient.Would hot oil temp be the cause? Thanks for your help,Ron

There is a TOT sensor diode on the solenoid pack....... Transmission operating temperature it delays the shifts on a cold trans. Mine can take up to 2 miles on a very cold morning to eventually go to the normal shift pattern.

If you do the FIPL adjustment do it on a warm engine as required.......
