hey yall im going to be getting a 84 f250 with a 6.9 soon i was told it has a knock (i havent heard it run yet) ive been reading alot these last couple days and noticed there are alot of reasons 6.9 will knock.
any advise on what to look for and what to listen for. hopfully i will get the truck to my house today and get it started so i can hear it and what its doing
if its an automatic, i've heard of the flex plate cracking and causing a knock. pull the tranny off and inspect the flex plate before you tear into the tranny itself
Is the noise constant, or does in go away when the clutch is engaged/disengaged? Any idea which part of the transmission it's coming from? Any drivability issues you've noticed? You can still pull the inspection plate and see how the flywheel and clutch look, if need be.
yes its consistant,no it does not go away with the clutch in or out,it sounds like the front like the flywheel. it drives and shifts good still but the knock gets louder when you get into higher rpms, i took the inspection plate off today and there are knicks on the teeth of the flywheel from where it looks like its hitting something small. heres a video of it.
