second cat removal

Hello, i have a 95 f150, eddie bauer, extended cab, 4x4 ,302, 285 tires. My question is this... What happens if i remove the second cat. I am trying to get a better sound from the exhaust and have been told the second cat is making that impossible. There is no o2 sensor downstream of the second cat, so I'm thinking the computer will never know its gone. Also how well this affect power. With the bigger tires its kinda sluggish off the line. Thanks

Removing the second cat won't hurt anything. It will give you more sound. Power will be virtually unchanged unless the old cat is partially restricted.

If running bigger tires, would should really change your gears, that will do more for you.

What size gears would you suggest? Front and back right?

Depends on what size wheels you are running. I'm not really an expert on selecting a gear ratio.

From: Calif.
If you are in Calif. you won't pass the smog check, even if it is still clean enough you will fail the visual check. Of course you could knock out all the converter substrate and it would still look OK, but this sometimes will make a funny sound from the exhaust echo in the empty convertor shell.
Depending on how much noise you want (leave the CATS alone) and remove the muffler and run a straight pipe or glass pack, this sounds pretty good.

exactly, not enough benefit to removing the second cat to make it worth while.

If you really want a performance sound why not install long tube headers, no cats, x pipe and true duals? 30hp and race car sound. When it's time to pass smog install a smog legal system
