I have a 95 f150 302, I recently installed a Gibson superflow catback exhaust system. My Truck of course has the two stock cats. My friends have told me that ford cats are notoriosly restrictive. Most of them run straight pipes, but i frequently travel out of state. ( No exhuast restrictions here in wyo) When I got the gibson put on, I asked the guy at the muffler shop if i should cut off my cats, he didn't seem too like the Idea. I thought about cutting the rear cat off but my exhaust is connected to it and I am afraid it would be a big hassle to deal with it. I was wondering which cat on this truck controls the emissions sensor, or Both? Should I cut one cat off or cut both off and get a high flow cat? Thanks a lot!
A 95 only has one O2 sensor and it is before the first cat (smaller cat). And since your truck is OBD-I, that sensor is not used to test cat efficiency, so no worries about the computer giving you codes.
I cut that rear cat off too. (the bigger cat). Man, did it get loud! Your friends are right, the cats hold in a LOT of sound. I notice this more on Fords.
I'd only cut the rear cat, since the first cat is Dual In/Single out. Also, there is an Air Injection tube right after that cat, so that's more messy. Besides, I dont think that cat hold in too much since it is kinda small.
