Who has stacks on a gasser? I know almost every stacked truck is a diesel. I'm just wondering why that is? Does it have ill effects on a gas engine? Like would a single in dual 2.5" out muffler going to 5" stacks hurt anything? Just wondering. I love the look of stacks, but they have to have that black smoke IMO!
Im bout to put stacks on my ol ford, just 2 1/2 into 1 into a 4-5 inch pipe, should sound mean with no muffler. It wont have the black smoke, but i ran out of gas yesterday and put a mixture of 90% diesal and 10% gas to get to the filling station, and i got a LOT of black smoke out of both pipes at full throttle! My grandpa use to put 1 gallon into his car everytime he filled up because the gas is so dry, and his ol chevelle has 546,*** miles on it, and my dad still puts the gallon in their every time. Doesnt hurt it i dont think
I was thinking of possibly doing it to my Dodge Dakota, but I don't know. I have a Flowmaster 40 SI/DO 2.5" muffler and would run it to dual 4" stainless stacks that are even with the roof line. I'm just not sure how it would look and what it would do performace wise.
It has been in my opinion that putting stacks on a gas engine truck, will only help give people something to make fun of for years to come. Guys putting stacks on diesel pickups derives from big diesel tractor trailer trucks, like 18 wheelers ECT. The purpose behind a diesel pickup truck using stacks is to simulate the bigger trucks with diesel engine. There has to be some sort of black smoke coming out of those stacks in order for it to make sense, other wise its just plain ole stupid looking in my opinion. I think gas engines have way more options when it comes to exhaust. If you do it right, the options are unlimited.
Well, and part of the reason the truck do it is so that it gets the smoke away from other cars and away from the trailer they are pulling. But on a gas pickup, neither of those are really problems.
I'de like to also put stackes on my f250, and black smoke, well I burn enough fuel
and oil to make up for that. For me it's not about miles per gallon, but how few the gallons per mile I get.
Gallons per mile I can identify with that!!!! Youtube has an excellent video of a 71(?) Reular Cab F250 with stacks. Real nice looking. Search "Big Rig".
Concerning compliments vs jokes, I'd say I have a ratio of 3 to 1 in favor of compliments. I was in a parking lot today picking up my ATV's and 1 guy came right up and told me how cool they were and I over heard people in 2 other vehicles commenting on it as they drove by. Besides, I haven't seen hardly any diesel trucks with stacks, mostly gassers. Probably because they spent all their money on 24" wheels and rubber band tires with off-road appearing tread. A CTD will eventually find it's way under my hood, but for now the gasser still lives.

Your truck is pretty baddass man, I lke it, stacks look grreat on it, I thot it was diesel!
You want smoke? drop a tube of grease down someones stacks! Maybe a lot of blue, but smoke none the less. (cdrmotorsports) The stacks may cause a huge loss in bottom end on your dakota. The short distance from the collectors to the back of the cab will only hurt it more. Anyone know the stock size of a dakota lil-red stacks? I dont think they are very big, they just have large heat sheilds to make them look bigger.
I've heard that they weren't functional too. I think they were 2.5" but I'm not sure. I think i'm just going to keep it out the sides the way it is now. Maybe move them tips infront of the rear tire. I don't know. I just don't want to loose and performance. Afterall, it's a Dodge. There isn't much there to begin with. Hahaha. I actually like my little truck. It does well. Sounds wicked good. Maybe I'll just have to buy a diesel if I want stacks.
