I have a 1995 f150 2wd with a 4.9l I think the cat is getting plugged up, I looked at the exhaust it looks stock, it has y pipes right into what looks like a resonator chamber then a CAT right after that at the cross member or is that another CAT? I would not think they would use two cats on a six but maybe I am wrong.
I removed the second cat but if the first one is also a cat can I remove the guts in the truck to open it up, do I just punch thru and the start the truck to blow out the crap or do I need to remove the y pipe? I am hoping this is just a resonator chamber and not a cat but need to know options, it is only a beater vehicle so I do not want to spend money on exhaust if not necessary.
You can knock it out. But, the turbulence created in the hollow cat will not help flow or power any over leaving it alone, as long as its not plugged. I'd leave it and see how it runs.
I would think that if it is a cat then that would be the one that is clogged as it is first in line so opening it up is in order unless it is not a cat that is what I really need to know.
