I recently had to pull my intercooler, in doing so, Id say I lost about half a gallon of transfluid I have no freaking clue how to refill it, I was thinking a long funnel to the dipstick But i really dont think thats right where/how can I fill it.
I think its the way youre describing your issue... are you implying the ATF came out of the intercooler? If so, that is bad.. m'kay but i dont know of an IC with a dipstick, so im going to say no, but its hard to follow. How did you lose tranny fluid pulling the IC?? The only way to add fluid to a auto tranny is like you say, funnel via dipstick tube.
I thought trans fluid was what was in the intercooler lines...what happened was I unhooked the two lines running from my intercooler so I could dismount it from my rad. I want to know how to get fluid back into there.
You had transmission fluid come out of your intercooler? Thats probably your transmission cooler, is your truck turbocharged? If not, you might be mistaking the intercooler for a transmission cooler....if so...put it back together, then add trasmission fluid via dipstick....
I think the problem is he is calling "intercooler" what is really the "transmission cooler". I am not specifically familiar with the auto trans version, but usually the trans cooler lines go into the radiator. It may have an extra trans cooler in front of the radiator, and that is what lines he disconnected. It is definitely trans cooler if red fluid came out.
Yes, you add trans fluid through the dipstick. That is the correct way. Just to confirm, make sure you check the level with trans hot and idling in park. Not with engine off.
For tje, the term intercooler is very specific and refers to a cooler for the compressed turbo air. After compressing the air it gets hot, the intercooler takes heat away so the pressurized air is more dense. Intercooler looks more like a radiator and is fairly large size with large tubing going in and out (like 3 inch diameter range). Your trans cooler is smaller and thinner with small diameter lines (like 3/8 inch diameter).
Note that IDI's do not have intercoolers, unless somone added it extra. Powerstrokes and newer use intercoolers from factory. An intercooler is a good thing, but it makes for more plumbing and space constraints.
no need to be sorry for anything.we're all hear to learn.no better way to learn than to ask/search rather than learning the hard way like a lot of us did before this crazy internet thingamajig.
it saves $ finding out here first.
so what's the story on having to remove your aux trans cooler? did you get it mounted back ok?
oops,
and fyi;
mercon or mercon V only for the E40D.
(go with mercon 5 preferably.it is better juice.reformulated years ago to be able to run it in the E40D.)
Pretty simple really, My sisters ex-husband got his pride hurt when he called me out, and when I left my truck for a couple days (Grandma died) he decided he would take a punch to my radiator (4 Holes), my fuel tanks (2 Holes in front) and one drilled hole to the rear tank(you could tell where he tried to puncture it), I didnt even realize what had happened until I took my Rad to a repair shop and the guy told me that someone vandalized it ( and he was sure of it) so since then I have been looking everything over and have found about 400 nails in the driveway Surprise surprise when the tire on my eclipse went flat (fixed now), and that's when I noticed all the fuel on the ground and when I found the holes in the tank, All my other fluid levels are fine brakes were checked out by my mechanic friend, tires were all checked over, i have gone nearly 3 full weeks without driving my truck I miss it dearly, the new rad comes in tomorrow, fixed my front tank melted the hole shut plugged my rear tank relatively well its been holding about 5 gallons with no problems but we will see. I have traced just about every wire the Eye can visually see and found nothing.
Before I whooped his *** and before he treated my sister like ****, he told me he had done something like this before, I remember it pretty clearly "I didnt try and get them killed just wanted them to know I was there."
Anyways, I should have my rad tomorrow, or the next day and she should be running just fine after that!
But I've got a motion sensor set up by the garage, with motion lights, but i doubt he will **** with my **** again if he does im liable to put a bullet in his head, if i do ill post on here first.
So yeah had to pull the rad in order to take it to be repaired henceforth I had to pull the transcooler!
*** whippin for sure... been alot of people hear me say if you screw with my truck youll dissapear. Actually, i want a sticker decal that says "my truck is worth more than your life" lol, i think that would get the point across.
