I just got a new to me 1990 F350 crew cab long bed dually 2wd with 7.3 idi an E4OD tranny. I want to change the oil, tranny fluid in it. Just wanted to know what you guys would recommend? Thanks
As for engine oil I run 15w-40 year round. Make sure you get DIESEL motor oil for it. I've used mobil delvac, shell rotella and napa auto parts oils in my trucks so far. I always run Purolator oil filters... No problems whatsoever. I've never had an automatic truck, but in my zf5 speed I run Valvoline high mileage atf - it shifts very well.
Make sure you run the ford VC-8 (new part number is FW-16?) coolant additive in your antifreeze. - you'll need 2 bottles of the stuff for your truck.
If its an auto, mercon V ATF, if its a 5 speed ZF, it also takes ATF. I'll second the diesel oil, 15w-40. Pick the brand you like, everyone has an opinion on oil here, there was just a post linking to a comparison of several brands so scroll down a bit and look that up.
For the coolant, it needs to have SCA's, do a search for cavitation and read all about that. Don't add anything until you figure out what is in there, and if its already charged with SCA. You can add too much and it will sludge up.
BTW, there's this great feature called search, I bet you'd find all sorts of answers to your question if you used it. ;-)
