I don't think it is a comm problem (but I have been known to wrong before). I don't loose any of my realtime data, and I can run the test function. I just can't pull trouble codes.

But it could be an adapter or firmware version problem. Comparing notes with another forum member, he mentioned that none of his VIN data comes up with his adapter and torque on a Droid Razr. Mine does show all that info and the only difference is our adapter as we both have Droid Razrs...

What kind of adapter do you have and what version ELM327 is it?

craypc: I just went out and did some testing. Interestingly enough, I got a similar error when I went in to check codes. However, after a couple of minutes it started to work! I also get a 1900 error and a couple of body errors, but after the 1st time, each time I went in it would interrogate for codes w/o that initial warning msg.

I also noticed the same thing for the vehicle info. W/I the 1st couple minutes or so of the engine being on, the data fields finally filled in, whereas before it was "unknown".

Maybe you just need to let it stabilize for a bit?? (hope that's the case for you...)

^^^ you may have a point. These APPs can have so many things turned on to help with how we want things to look or read, that it might take a few moments for them to settle in.

craypc: I just got another adapter and was having trouble with it so I'll throw something out there for you to try that I found. If you go into settings and then under adapter options (something like that, you'll see it), one of the options is to turn Off the Automatic Timing (I think this is where Torque is constantly trying to find the best speed for your adapter). Anyway the note there says to turn it off and it'll default to a slower speed to resolve comm errors. Again we don't know if yours is comm based, but it's something else you could try...

I'm thinking of getting another brand of adapter myself, just to see if I get more static data -- things like the ECU and FICM flash level; right now I only get VXC in Engine Calibration (which is the 1st 3 characters of all the ECU flashes, I've been told) and nothing else esp. wrt the FICM...

It sounds more like a problem in the calculation. Have you checked EOT after a good cold soak (for me this is like 18 - 24 hrs). If your EOT is about half what your ECT is it's definately the calc. If they are the same cold then you put in one heck of a cooler (just kidding), it might be the sender.

The eqution should be: (((A*256)+B)/100)-40

Also make sure you are reading Engine Oil Temp not Engine Oil Temperature.

torque only reads the ecm, so an add on fuel pressure won't work with it.

Did you verify which Oil Temp you are monitoring? Both have the same name on the gauge, but when you go to get the PID one's long name is Engine Oil Temp (that's the one you want and you Will have to change the calc (delete a leading paren). The other is called Engine Oil Temperature, frankly I don't know what it gives since I got the advice before I had the gear to set up my monitoring.

So you can go to any real time screen and do an add display, pick your choice of guages and then go select Engine Oil Temp and next you need to correct the equation and delete the 4th opening parenthesis. That's what ended up working for me. I'm hoping you just have the other oil temp is all...

good luck

So what do the two EOTs show? (I haven't tried both, so curious)

It's either the sensor or the calc, and it sounds too much like the calc (it's half the value of ECT at cold and Normal OT, a bit suspicious don't you think?) -- somebody more knowledgeable is gonna' have to help you at this point. If someone near you has a scangauge, or even another Torque user, they could plug in and check it -- IDK...

You could check in with a local chapter and see if you can get local help...
