Why would you want to answer a call and miss reading the gauges!? J/K!

Yes, I have answered a call and gone right back to the app.

Some phones had issues, but I think those have been resolved.

I drove mine a little more today. Outside temps aroung 91. Interstate at around 65mph and around town. Trans temps between 195 and about 210. Coolant about the same as trans. EOT consistent about 12-14 degress more than coolant. EOT never above 220. My EGR cooler and oil cooler have about 33k on them. I need to change my coolant filter this weekend. Coolant also has the same mileage with a full flush at the dealer. Oil had less than 20 miles on it when I left the house this morning. I had it changed and picked it up yesterday. My fan never came on, although it does sometimes when I am pulling the 5th wheel and on some climbs without the 5th wheel. Transmission also has the same mileage since a full service including flush at the dealer. I'm leaving for Yellowstone next Saturday so I will get to monitor what its doing when its working hard.

I am thinking your trans gauge is wrong. I can't help until tomorrow.

Download the free version, torque lite, and play around with it. Remember, this app should work with all OBDII cars. Search youtube for android torque app and you will get tons of info.

Did you get the extended pids from the app for the powerstroke? If you did your temp should be right.

I did an extensive search on this site. I found a lot of people reporting low trans temps. I also found a lot reporting temps similar to mine. I have always watched the factory gauge. Even when towing, it doesn't move. I found this posted on the site from bismic:

More Info: Tranny Temp
As for the "Factory" transmission temp gauge, it is a glorified "idiot" light as its response is severely dampened. The panel gauge will show the temp as fully warmed up at 50 *F. Between 100-220F the needle will remain in the same position on the gauge. At 230F it will move up slightly to the middle of the normal range. At 250F it will move to Yellow. The gage moves to red at 280. This is supported on page 36 of the OBDII Theory and Operations manual. The tow/haul light will flash at 275.
Over 220 is really too hot for continuous service IMO - most likely something is not right when you see temps continuously this high. Never exceed 250 for more than 30 minutes for reasons below.
Mark Kovalsky (former Ford tranny engineer) says the fluid can get to 300 for a SHORT time w/o any seal damage (however a measured temp of 250 could actually mean that some areas and parts may already be as high as 300 - normal tranny fluid is good to 300 or so, but your tranny isn't!).

If 230 is the key number, then I should see the needle move when the gauge reads 230. If the gauge reads 230 or more when I am towing and the factory needle doesn't move, like it never has, then I have to assume the gauge is off. The one variable is I didn't see anyone with the low temps and a dually with 4.10 gears. I think I will clean the radiator and coolers tomorrow and see if that changes anything.

Here is how the Tranny info needs to be set up. Go into the Ford PIDs and go to edit in the TransFl gauge. The biggest issue is the last one. Needs to read "TCM"

Let me know what you find.

pid=221674

short name= TransFl

min= 0.0

max = 300.0

scale factor = x1

unit type = *F

equation = ((A*256)+B)/8

THIS NEXT ONE IS IMPORTANT

OBD Header = tcm

Also, Check all of your temps in the morning after a 12 hour cold soak. Your temps should read near ambient and very close to each other.

My tranny temps, with the truck empty, and cruising the highway, are always near 170*. No matter the outside temps. Now, when I'm dragging my TT, which weighs 8000#, I have seen my tranny at around 180-185*, ambient temp at 95*. That is the highest I have seen. And that was while climbing cow canyon grade on highway 97 in Central Oregon. Which is a very long pull.

The oil temp equation I am currently using, provided by Ian the developer is:

(((A256)+B)/100)-40 (and the unit = *C the equation will adjust to *F in your gauge.)

Here is a thread on some issues with the Ford PIDs:

Let me know what you find.

Ian has worked very hard putting this thing together. $5 for this app? I am very happy providing a person with this kind of talent $5.

It's a great scan tool also. It also shows me what my Strategy is in my ECM.

Again, worth the $5.

Thanks again. I found 2 things in the pid settings. In trans temp, the max was set to 240 instead of 300 so I changed that. In the EOT the unit was F instead of C so I changed that. I will drive it tomorrow and post results. Thanks again.

I thought it was odd that my trans temp always was the same as the coolant temp. Then I changed the header to "TCM" and it reads different than the coolant now. Checked it with my old scanner.
