Well I just installed new struts
The Monroe complete unit, quick strut #171361. I have 48k on the truck now and will let everyone know what I think. So far I like them. But this is what I pulled off of the truck..
With only 48k on the truck and you installed new struts? I want to know how they do but it seems early to me but stranger things have happened I guess.
Yup, the coil snapped on the pass side. I had a weird rattle in the front suspension for a few Weeks, finally I found the problem. So I replaced both sides and no more rattle. I just need to get an alignment to finish the job
I told everyone I would post my review on these struts.....
They are good, probably smoother than the stock struts. I did need to tighten the shock bolt in the center of the strut, it worked itself loose and was making a good bit of noise, but other than that they have been great. 12k miles and counting
Adding the new strut with the leveling block did it change the level of the truck any? I plan to change mine out tomorrow. A little higher and I would be Ok but any lower and my tires might rub I run 275/65/20 nitto's.
A couple of weeks ago, when I had my truck in for an alignment, the tech found a broken spring that looked exactly like the one in the picture here. I had them do the replacement with KYB struts. They raised the truck about an inch, but that's compared to struts that were almost 10 yrs old. The ride is an improvement over the OEM struts.
It would seem that Ford has (or had) problems with coil springs breaking. When I found this I did a search on this and other sites and it isn't an uncommon problem. I know from experience that the older Taurus/Sables and Escorts had issues with coils breaking. I hope Ford has figured this out or changed vendors.
