Driving one night, for the second time, I heard something break up front, knew my shock tower was getting weak, and found my shock just bouncing freely up and down. Blown right through. I replaced one side a few years back but figured this side would last a while longer.
See it, oh yeh its toast. So I figured id take the weekend, do it all at once the right way and be done with it. Well when removing my coil, it just fell apart on me...seemingly broken for some time now. So i hopped over to the local junk yard and pulled one out of a similar truck. Probably set me back 3hrs or so but was worth it.
I decided to grind the heads of the rivits off instead of using a torch like I did last time. both were effective though.
yep broke the brakeline in the process
definately wanted to get all areas covered with some chassis paint
spring I pulled from the yard and new shock tower from LMC. painted both
all went together pretty smoothly, had to slot some of the bottom rivet holes with a file for it to line up properly but all in all it was a great weekend project and worth the trouble. Brake line clip was a bit difficult due to some rust and ended up having to replace the brakeline going from disc to disc, not due to it being old just because I may have been a bit rough lol.
heres the truck, 1994 f150 2wd restored in 2012-2013 about 160k miles as of now with the 4.9l i6. great truck, got it in 2012 with my license, me and my father restored it. He bought it new in 94 himself! Been keeping up with it and plan on having it for a long time.
Nicely done! Happy to see that your frame behind the tower looked as good as it did. We have some guys come in looking to have it replaced and the frame looks absolutely terrible when its taken off. What type of paint did you use on the frame?
Keep us in mind if you ever need the other side tower!
