Well, I have settled down with the fact that it's just a warm running engine. Everything is new in the cooling sys including the rad, fan clutch, hoses,t-stat, water pump and the motor is newly rebuilt. Has about 800 miles now. I.ve run a cooler t sta, a hotter t stat, a restrictor and no t stat. Get the same results everytime. Runs cool on the freeway and heats up in the city. was 104 yesterday I drove it for an hour or so ..never got to 190 on the road. get in the city heated up to 220 pretty quick..didnt shut it down and it didn't boil over or over heat. Factory guage gets about a quarter of an inch from the white end of the guage but never gets to the red or the "H". Drove it home and let it idle for 40 minutes. Heated up to 220 for a minute or so and leveled out at 212 and thats where it stayed til i turned it off 40 mins later. I've read on the 460 forum that about 7 out of 10 guys are having the same thing and some say its norm for the 460. Soooooooooo... I am gonna throw a pusher E Fan on it and call it a day. Now I just wonder where to put an oil cooler since i'm gonna be using it's original place in front of the condensor. Any ideas?
Well I think what really nailed the coffin on my cooling problem was the 7 blade rigid fan. The flex a lite wasn't cutting it. I'm sitting around 180-200 with ac on.
I personally don't think 210 is too hot though.
Are you running an engine oil cooler or tranny cooler?
Yea i am running a flex a lite tranny cooler and it has it's own fan also. It's not enough to help out the engine but that's ok. I'm not running an oil cooler right now but do intend to put a flex lite on here pretty soon. The one I am gonna get is from Jeffs Bronco Grave yard and it has it's own fan to. It's bigger than the tranny fan. Only trouble with that is I wanna put a pusher fan on it so that will take the place of where the oil cooler was.
As far as the rigid fan..I have the stock 6 blade fan from ford. It seems pretty stiff to me so I don't know if a 7 blade will help it out. Think I will give it a try anyway. Hell I've done everything else to this point . I sure am glad my Bronco doesn't give me this kinda trouble !!!
Thanks for all your input though..makes life a little easier when other minds get involved ..Dave
Well I noticed something today, I rode for a few hours at idle speed and the truck got up to 210 or so, when I went to make a couple runs in the mud pits, temp dropped to 180 which is my current thermostat temp. Even with the a/c going full placed. So maybe why you mud boggers aren't seeing any cooling problems is the muddy water is keeping your motor cooler.
