I have been having a problem with my truck cranking over longer then it should (3-4 seconds) before starting. When it sits overnight and i go to start it in the morning it starts right up but if i shut it off and then let it sit it will crank for 3-4 seconds before starting. It has 2 new fuel pumps and i just put in a new fuel pressure regulator today but still the same problem. I am thinking it could possibly be a leaking injector. Any ideas. Truck is an 88 f250 351W.
or a weak coil throwing a weak **** spark... check your ignition parts especiallay the contact points on the cap and rotor and spark plugs. Also how old is your battery? if you have a weak battery it will slow down your turn over time... If you want to look into injectors, there is a "how to" that I wrote on how to manually clean your injectors for a fraction of what new ones cost...
Ford uses a Bosch injector, and is the industry standard. Ohm them hot and cold. Should be about 14.7. If they vary more than 1 you could consider replacing them.
If the motor runs/idles smoothly after it gets started then I doubt your injectors are in need of a change, but to verify get a fuel pressure gauge to see if the system makes the correct pressure(40-45psi max) and holds it after the engine is shut off like it should. If pressure bleeds off immediately then you could have an injector stuck open but you could also have a problem with the dual function resovoir, depends if you get full pressure across the injectors or not to point in one direction or the other.
It does idle a little rough but it accelerates normal. I need to get a fuel pressure gauge like you said and after that i may be able to narrow it down a bit.
