Hope someone can help I've tried to help a few on here, & hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. My 88 Bll was sitting for 18 months w/ a bad tranny, I put another tranny in got everything together and it doesn't run right it runs rough no power. I've switched out about everything w/ extra parts i had, such as distributor, module, coil, plug wires, ect. So tonite I pulled the plugs to check them out. #s 1 3 5 6 look like brand new, just like they came out of the box. 2 & 4 are black & sooty like their way rich. Could the fuel injectors be plugged on the ones that look new. It runs better then what i think it would run on two cylinders ie the black plugs. Got any suggestions Thanks in advance Steve
actually it sounds to me like spark plugs one and two were not in properly, because if they were brand new or at least relatively new then they really should not have allot of crud on them try cleaning the threads and reinstalling and making sure that they are in far enough as if the threads have lots of crud in them it can make u think they r all the way in when they really are not.
Also if you are having a power problem i recommend that u look into replacing the fuel filter as i know from experience that it makes a big difference.
Dealing with something along the same lines now. While we have not finished the repairs yet? We did find several injectors plugged with rust and crud. I suspect our bronco II also sat for a while, and after starting it a few times? Circulated enough of the crust around that really got stuck in the injectors small micro-filter.
What I would suggest, and this would show yes or no...and it's a bit on the labor side (with a cost for new parts) I'd pull the upper intake off, and pull the injector rail. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PRESSURE!! From there? Carefully remove one injector at a time and inspect the end where the fuel enters. If it's full of garbage? That would restrict fuel flow, more or less depending on how much crud is stuffed in the filters.
If the filters are totally clear? Then wipe out where the injectors sit, and install new O-Rings (you can actually purchase a full kit with all the parts). They can be reinstalled very carefully coating the O-Rings with clean engine oil. (They do tear easily, as I just found out LOL) So a few extras are handy.
Before you start pulling to much apart. Double check the wiring that goes to the injectors. Sometimes varmints like to make their home out of stuff that doesn't move. The injector wires are a small and it doesn't take much to chew threw them.
Ford fires their fuel injectors one bank at a time. 2-4-6 Injectors will all fire at once even though Cylinder #4 is the only one getting spark. Same with 1-3-5. So if the wire is broken before #1, Injectors #3 and #5 won't work.
Hope that makes sense. Just kicking out another idea.
