After looking around at different options and ideas came to the conclusion of a possible gear change in my truck. My question know is what gears should I put in 4:10's, 3:73's. All I want is a monster for towing grades. Without special mods. So I believe re-gearing would be the way to go, any ideas? Thanks!
Im doing a gear swap for 4.10's in a couple weeks. Same reason, more towing power. I found out it will raise my rpm's at 75 about 310, which isn't bad. 3.73s would only raise it about 100, little more.
Way better for towing. The higher the numbers the lower the gears are. The lower the number the higher the gear. Lower gears mean higher rpm's better for towing. The higher the gear lower rpm's but better mpg's
So my cat disapered and gotta say my truck sounds good. I have nothing but pipe from turbo back, and its loud as hell. Not sure but seems that I have a little bit better throttle response. And I can hear that turbo spooling. Gonna do my gear swap in the spring, any chance you guys could tell me the best place to get 4:10's, or any advice on doing it the right way? Thanks.

Randy's Ring and Pinion has always treated me well. If you've never done a gear swap, I'd take it to a shop.
Thats good to hear I keep hearing about Randy's in Seattle so its good to hear you guys talk about him. And Im not doing this myself I have a few buddies that work here at our Armory and all know what to do, they were just asking me to ask you guys what ratio to go with and were to get the right parts from, you know cause their..... "chevy" guys! But thanks for the reply's.
Just to explain it another way imagine a ten speed bicycle. You have different size sprockets on the rear tire depending what gear you use. Your 3.55 gears are just a larger sprocket and what happens when you try to pedal up a hill? 4.10's are a physically smaller gear which like on the bicycle is much easier to pedal on the hill or with more weight. Just like your truck. A gear ratio change would make a huge difference in towing but your MPG will go down a little.
