7.3 lacks power
I ended up buying a 2006 6.0 f250 extended cab almost 2 months ago partially because of this issue and also because I wanted a truck with power locks/windows, etc that wasn't so friggen big. parking isn't the best with this truck as a daily driver.
This truck will be put up for sale once I figure out this power issue. I want it to run right for the next owner.
After reading a few p1211 threads, my truck doesn't seem to mesh up too well with the symptoms other people have had.
The problem is lack of power. The power seems to go away more and more the longer I run the truck. It seems to have decent power at city speeds, but not so much past 60mph. At its worst, I started a 6% grade after driving 200 miles at 70mph and finished the hill at 60mph, almost full throttle the whole way up. I wasn't even towing anything.
The first thing I did was change the oil, new fuel filter, dropped the fuel tank and cleaned the screens. I was hoping this problem was fuel related, but I only got a small improvement, as the screens were pretty clogged up.
The truck starts and Idles fine. very smooth, no missing, no stiction or bad injectors, starts within a second or 2 consistently, whether hot or cold.
I plugged in a scanguage II to get some numbers and noticed the ICP drops to 1200psi under full throttle at highway speeds in overdrive and as low as 1800psi while going through the gears. The IPR goes to 65% pretty quick under full throttle. ICP is about 460psi at idle. Boost seems to not want to get above 15PSI.
I've been told the HPOP rarely goes out in these trucks, but the IPR valve and ICP sensor are common failures.
A few of my friends said to change out the ICP sensor, simply because I mentioned p1211
If it was the IPR or the ICP sensor, wouldn't I have hard starts or a rough idle?
Is it possible my HPOP is simply getting weak?
I'm no stranger to diesel engines and simple DIY repairs, but this truck has me stumped currently and it's pretty expensive to just throw parts at it. Can anyone give me a better idea of what's going on with my truck?
Other than that, this sounds more like an internal oil leak. Pop the HPOP lines to the heads loose. Search "Cody test" on the forum - this is when you blow air into the oil rails to listen for leaks. Use a rag around the air nozzle, or tarp the whole area (including your face).
