I have an F150, ex cab 4x4 with a 5.4L. Truck looks mean on black 18" Rockstar XD rims with 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers. Only problem is the sound does not match the look. I'm tired of the quiet of stock exhaust.
I would love a mean and nasty sound that doesn't sacrifice MPGs. I plan on a diy custom job. I have all the necessary tools to do the job right. I'm just not sure what brand or style to go with the exhaust.
Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
I was talking to a friend of mine who owns an auto salvage and I often ask him for advice on things like this. He suggested Borla. I've always been a Flow Master kinda girl so I'm hesitant to try something new. He did tell me to keep in mind back pressure is the key to MPG. He also suggested running duals with a 3" pipe, 4" tips and running it out the sides instead of all the way back. Any ideas on that?
I've got flowmaters on mine, but i'm getting ready to have to change mine. One of the baffles in my flowmaster came loose, and I think I am going to try out magnflow this time around.
Ths cat back exhausts don't really affect the mpg's. good or bad. my mpg's got a little worse at first, but that was from using the gas more to make the new exhaust rumble.
And if your worried about the back pressure, don't run dual 3" pipes. one at 3" would be fine, but duals will drop that back pressure a bit
My only concern really is the sound. I've always had a truck that sounded mean. This truck sounds pathetic. If I have to sacrifice mpgs for the right rumble its more than worth it.
Like Dano said the only sacrifice to MPG's will be from your foot on the gas to hear it not from the system. Good quality sounding systems will be MRBP, Flowmaster, or Borla. They will all produce a solid sound. Mangaflow will give a decent sound but not like the other 3. Flowmaster and Borla will have the sound through out the RPM range while MRBP will have the best at about 2k and then drop off during cruising speed. Running duals out the rear with 3" will drop the pressure. If you want duals then stick to the 2.5 pipes that are there already and do si/do muffler to give the look of duals but not affect the pressure much.
Coskid the 2.5 pipe is the conclusion I have come to also. And I think borla is the way to go I have heard lots of good feed back on the borla. Well I guess we will see what I do by the weekend
Add an electric dump & stainless turn down, that is opperated with a wireless fob to blend in the extra whomp when you neeed it. That extra really gives rap some zap. LOL
