I was just wondering, I have heard that the sound coming out of your exhaust is all depending on your tips. is this true?? Im debating whether or not to put a cat back system on my 4.2. If i do i need to know what kind of tips will get me closest to a low deep V8 Rumble. I was thinking long and big tips would give me this. Whats your take on it??
It doesnt all depend on your tips but big tips will change it quite a bit. You nailed it, if your trying to get deepness out of a 4 or 6 cylinder, then the longer and bigger the better.
I agreee with mike, the bigger longer tips give your exhaust a deeper tone. My 67 mustang has dual 24"x3" tips with dual 2 chamber flomasters, and it sounds absoutley incredible. I think having a larger pipe overall really helps deepen the tone as well.
I thought it was just wishful thinking a while back when the guys here told me to put some S/S tips on my 53 F100 with 302 for a much deeper sound. My tips are not installed permanently yet. I can slip them off ond on and hear a very significant difference. Especially at idle. Huge tips look wrong on my old truck IMO. I am only talking about a 3' x 8 tip on 2 1/4 tailpipes, flowmaster 40 duals. I am amazed at the smooth deepness in tone. Thanks guys. Best $46 I ever spent on exhaust.
I used to own a 73 f250 w a .030 390 w a 4 speed and I had 4in echo tips that were about 24in long and it sounded absoulty incredible..The echo tips are very popular here in Texas...Everyone has them...The slanted tips are most popular..Quite a difference in sound than regular pipe..Very deep especially on a big block...
K5!? JUNK! just kidding. i have L&L headers, 3"pipe, x-pipe, dynomax race magnums, and 4"/18" slant cut tips. It cracks, it rumbles, and it has alot of tone. Ive been told exhaust only sounds this good in dreams, the kind that sounds like flowmasters at highway speeds-and sounds like straight pipes when you give her hell! i dont think its all the exhaust though, that 466 SCJ has a little to do with it.......
