Programming a new key?

I recently bought a 2002 V-10 excursion. I've got everything working but, I only have one PATS key and one spare uncoded key. My question is, is there anyway around getting a new key reprogrammed without having 2 PATS keys? or going to a dealership? Thanks for all the help!

with only 1 key off to the dealer you go and drop about 80 bucks.

$80? Wow!

When I had to get another key a couple of years ago, they charged me $140 or so. Granted, I only had one key.

They were going to charge me $20 or so for a blown fuse. I told them that was total BS as I had a whole box of them in the console. Should've asked me first before doing it.

$20 for a 10 cent fuse! Don't they have a conscience?

does the X even have PATS?

99-07 Superduty doesn't have it. Would make sense if the X didn't either since it's basically a F-250 anyways

edit: go try and start the X using your spare key. That's how I found out my truck didn't have PATS

It definitely has PATS. The dealer quoted me 67.00. Headed there today.

Yep, X has pats. The super duty added in 08 I think as too many stolen too easy.
Some locksmith shops will charge less for programming. You can also use the AE software to program also.

Yeah, all Excursions do.

Logical thinking, but nope, Ford put 'em on all Ex's.

All you have to do is look at the key. A PATS key is very different in size due to the chip.

F250 regular key. Basically a metal key with a plastic cover on the head.

Ford PATS key. You can see how much bigger the plastic head is.

Here's a translucent PATS key so you can see the security chip inside the oversized plastic head.

To the OP, with only one key, you either have to go to a locksmith or a Ford dealership.
