Problem staying in reverse

I have a 2003 F250 5.4L with an automatic transmission and it's having a hard time staying in reverse. If you don't jam the shifter up into the collum it won't catch and will keep rolling away making a clunking noise due to it not being locked in. It has 113,000 miles on the truck and has plowed snow its whole life.

Now that you have the history, what is the best way to go about this? Is this a common problem? Thanks for any feedback.

You say reverse, but it sounds like you mean park.

Most likely the two bolts that hold the shifter tube to the column are loose. Look under the steering column for two Torx head bolts.

I guess you can tell that I'm used to driving standard transmissions but it's pretty embarrassing that I kept saying reverse. Thanks for the tip though. I'll look into that.
