I have been having trouble lately with taking my Bronco from Park to Reverse to Neutral to Drive. I have noticed that I can easily miss Reverse and not even know it and that even though it looks like I am in Neutral I am really in Drive.
I tried putting my truck in Park tonight and it wouldn't go. I pushed all the way down on the brake and pushed the shifter up but it still wouldn't go. I had to jiggle it around just to get it to go into park...
Pick up a Haynes Manual at your local parts store. its tough to describe, but if you pull the steering wheel off, you get access to the mechanisms that help align the column shifter into the right position. These do wear in time and depending on driver habits as well.
hmmm... Exactly how hard is this to fix? I am scared to take the truck out because I can't put it into reverse and I'm worried I may end up not being able to put it into park or something...
You rbest bet is go to Autozone, if you have one near you. You can get the manual, and the puller there. The puller will only be a rental. You pay full price for it but you get all your money back when you are done with it. That is prolly the hard part. With a puller, it is not a tough job to do. Just pay attention to the orfer that you take it apart so you can reverse it when you put it back together again.
Well I had a buddy come over and look at the column... He thinks the shifting mechanism needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I've heard that since you can't buy the little parts that make up the mechanism you have to buy a whole new steering column... brand new steering column from Ford = $900
