Got the entire front clip back on for the first time since the initial tear-down 5 years ago. Almost makes it look like a truck again I'm really pleased to see how the front wheels line up in the fender openings, I had only hung a fender when I was installing the volare clip. I did have to cut a big chunk out of the passenger rear fender, it had been creased really bad and was real thin in spots and kept cracking when I would try to hammer and dolly it, should get it patched this weekend. Getting closer and closer to done
I welded the patch in on the rear fender Monday night. About 5 feet of weld. Had to do it in 3 pieces. Spread mud last night.
We only have one more night of class so I'm gonna bust my hump this weekend and hopefully get the primer-surfacer on it this coming Monday. Sure wish I could have got it in paint, but I have made a tremendous amount of progress from where I started. Did a total of about 20 patches.
I'm going to get it drivable and then see what I want to do about final paint.
I got the panel in high-build a few weeks ago, did a whole bunch more in bodywork in the fall community ed. class. Would have gotten it painted but had a pinched nerve in my neck that kept me from any work whatsoever. Hopefully that situation will be resolved this week, going to a specialist Wednesday. I'll take the class one more time this spring and should get it done.
Gary, Lookin good! I wish our local College still had an auto body class. I have been doing wheel tub and firewall repair for the last couple of weeks.
Your body work looks great, Gary. Your truck has undergone quite a dramatic transformation from when you started. After years of effort, you look to be nearly finished. Congratulations, and best wishes as you finish up the paint work. You truck will look awesome.
Thanks for the compliments. It's nice to be this close to finishing it. The bodywork on it isn't show quality but it will be a good 10 footer. The main thing I like about it is that it is 100% my build, I think that will make driving it that much more special.
My brother-in-law spent a Saturday helping me with the wiring on the panel, got it pretty well done, just have to get the gas tank installed and fix one brake leak to have it ready to run.
Until then it's onto the joy of block sanding!!
This thing is like sanding a barn but I am really pleased with how straight it is turning out. Hopefully it'll be ready for paint in a couple more weeks
The plan right now is a dark copper with black grill, running boards, bumpers and wheels. It'll have the hood trim, light bezels, door handles and spider caps for chrome accents
