A little gas tank repair.
After I get it all welded up I'm going to cover all the seams with J-B Weld and then use red kote on the inside.
The tank was completely full of this shredded carpet crap. Packrats are great
Been making a bit of progress the last few weeks. Just about through plumbing the brakes, gotta finish hooking up the rear brakes and get the lines attached to the frame and bleed them. Rebuilt the carburetor, installed new distributor and alternator. After a couple of trips to the junkyard I found the pulleys I needed to be able to have power steering and a/c. Spent the last couple days adapting the Volare Power steering pump to the 302. Actually wasn't too hard after I looked at it for awhile. I used the volare pump brackets and one front bracket off the 302.
Here's where I cut the rear pump bracket(top) and the 302 bracket(bottom).
Cut on the front pump bracket, used the lower part.
Flipped the rear pump bracket and attached it to the engine.
Attached the pump by the lower bolt.
Drilled a hole in the front bracket for the adjustment bolt.
I will still have to do some shimming to get the pump pulley aligned exactly right. Once I get a radiator, wiring harness and get the drive-shaft shortened the mechanicals will be done.
Thought I better update since it's been a while.Since the last post I've installed upgraded door latches, dual exhaust, brake lines, removed the key from the ford tilt column, got an aluminum radiator fitted, aerostar sparetire carrier, painted the frame/underside of body and adapted a jeep cherokee wiper motor to the stock mechanism, plus a whole lot of little stuff I didn't document.
Mitsubishi door latch in mounting plate.
Dual exhaust
Aluminum radiator 1970 Challenger or Cuda
Spare tire carrier
Body lifted off
Wipers
The chassis is 99% finished, just need to button up a few little things then I need to fire off the engine and get the body mounted again. After that it's finish the bodywork and paint. I've got the majority of the components to get it roadworthy just need the time and some more money.
Next to finding an original passenger side seat the doors are most scarce part, as you probably already know. How bad are your doors? Post some pictures. Also, post your location, maybe there's a member near by who can help.
