My 98 2WD ranger has a sticky accelerator. It sticks anytime I let off and then press down. I had it fixed a couple of years ago when it was still under warranty, but it started sticking again about a year ago. Anyone have any ideas?
I have a 99 Ranger and it does the same thing. You press it down and it's like you get nothing and you press down a little firmer and it "unsticks". Don't know what to tell you.
If it's showing the same symptoms, go to wherever you had the problem fixed before and ask them for some kind of printout of the warranty repair. Try and find out whether it was repaired pursuant to a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB). If so, get the number of the TSB, then you can post it and maybe someone can look it up for you to find out what the recommended repair procedure is for that particular problem.
I had a sticky accelerator also and found out that the throttle body stop bolt backed out and actually allowed the tb to go over center. I turned it in about a half turn and experienced no more problem.
my 2.5 had same thing i cleaned out t/b with t/b spray cleaner also t/b plate do not use carb. cleaner also sprayed spring on outside t/b where cable is attached with wd-40 works good now
My throttle cable bracket decided to shear in half (for whatever reason/cause I don't know) , so I was on the freeway and suddenly I get no accerelation and a dead pedal...
Just a little story to make you guys laugh...maybe I had better slow down and be easier on my throttle!
Oh yeah, I got it fixed.. had to buy a new one...
Not that this is the same thing happening to you...

Based on your signature, I'd bet that the throttle cable on your Ranger gets a good workout...
