98 Ranger seems to run fine at normal speeds, but when I accelerate, say to pass on the highway, I get a bad hesitation that pulses. Thinking of fuel filter, MAF, throttle body. Anyone with this experience have any recomendations?
Another thing that will cause this symptom is a worn spot on the throttle position sensor. It is fairly common on high mileage vehicles or vehicles equipped with cruise control. It causes bucking, jerking, hesitation, etc., when accelerating from cruise. It will sometimes set a code, but not always. jd
A flaky TPS will also cause the trans to go out of converter lock-up for no apparent reason. A dirty MAF will generally cause accel problems from a standstill What does it do when climbing a loooooong hill, where it would be sucking up a lot of fuel for a relatively long time? (fuel filter flows .. just enough to fool you... but not enough to accelerate at speed...).. or a weak fuel pump.
