Removing Injector
Got everything buttoned up and put back together. One thing I found helpful when re-installing injectors - keep the oil spout deflector bolt loose until the bottom injector hold-down bolt is secured to spec, then tighten the oil deflector bolt. Otherwise, if oil deflector is secured slightly out of proper position, it could prevent the bottom hold-down bolt from lining up properly through the mounting harness.
Engine light came on when I finally got it started and running - have to figure out how to set up my Aeroforce guage for reading codes and I'll find out what they were.
At this point - just a couple anomolies:
Some oil leaking at the valve gaskets: I cleaned off the mating surfaces pretty meticulously - took about 10-15 min each to wipe down and scrub the valve mounting surface and valve cover surface. Installed new valve cover gaskets on both sides - torqued all cover bolts to spec (and then a little bit more). Any recommendations on how to stop the leak - just crank down the bolts past spec, or is there a better method (ideally that doesn't have me back under the covers for at least 50k miles
)?Have a new whirring sound that occurs when boost pressure gets up above 5.0 or so - it increases in pitch and volume as I punch it, and is more pronounced in 3rd gear than 2nd or 4th (at similar boost pressure), but gets pretty pronounced in 4th up above 2200 rpms or so. I installed a new K&N high volume filter when putting the intake back on. Anyone know if the K&N has a noticeable swooshing sound much moreso than the darth vader mask filter? If not - I'll look around for a hole or mismatch on the rubber intake lines, and perhaps re-glue that vacuum reservoir on the heater box (though wouldn't expect this to affect acceleration).
Thanks a ton for everyone who helped out - overall a successful first-time installation of new injectors, glow plugs, uvch harness and valve gaskets - and the truck really gets up and moves her *** with the stage 1 injectors and tuner. Thanks especially to Jon who did that great injector replacement write-up. The pictures and description were invaluable for me.
I just changed out my stock injectors with a used set of stage 1 injectors (they had been in the truck for a few months and he blew it up). I've went over 300 miles, since I knew it would run like crap until all air was worked out, but at 1100-1300 RPM I still have a miss. Is this a sign of a bad injector or a bad harness?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Oh yeah I have a 1997 F 250 with a 7.3, 232,000 miles, TS 6 position chip, 3 inch down pipe.

I didn't see that before.
