my gauges were working them BAM they wasnt. the fuel gauge is beyond maxed out, the oil pressure gauge reads all the way low as if the key was off and the thermostat gauge maxes out after just a few minutes of running (1-2) minutes, and the voltage gauge reads correct. any ideas voltage regulator only think that comes to mind.

Sounds like a faulty ICVR (instrument cluster voltage regulator)
you can test it with a volt meter, it should pulse 5v every second or so if working properly.
Incase your not familiar with the ICVR (Instrument cluster voltage regulator). It's a small box attached to the backside of the instrument cluster with one screw. It attaches to the printed circuit board with what looks like a 9V battery terminal.
yea i familiar with it. actually didn't know what they was supposed to put out or even that they pulsed. well now that i know how to check it ill have to give it a try. them lil boogers are expensive tho for what you get haha...thanks for help tho
D1AZ-10804-A .. ICVR (Motorcraft GR-513) / Obsolete / Last MSRP: $69.24 / Dealer net cost: $38.08.
Over 1,600 available NOS from Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors. Carpenter has 1,472 (!) of the little charmers. Listed in his 1967/79 truck catalog for $15.00 .. a roaring bargain.
Make sure to take the original to the autoparts store to match it up. There are 10 different ICVR's, most autoparts store partspeeps haven't a single clue.

In reference to the 10 different ones; that spans the Ford product line, right?
Our 73-79 trucks only used the one you listed up top, correct?

Correct, there's only one ICVR (Instrument Cluster Voltage Regulator): D1AZ-10804-A
But, there are more for other years/applications, examples: B7A-10804-A & B, B9MZ-10804-C, COMF-10804-A, C6DZ-10804-A, C9AZ-10804-A, D5AZ-10804-A and etc).
yea 50 bucks much less 60 is crazy for that! i bought two voltage regulators for my alternator for 30 bucks i believe. i think my old man still has a truck he picked up from scrap yard cpl months ago. so ill have to see what he has got laying around
