I had the works done about 15000 miles ago with oil & egr coolers. Eveerything has been fine. I added a water filter. The oil & water spread is good, 4-8 degrees just riding around. When towing 28000 lbs the spread is still good, just a little higher.
When I change my coolant filter I don't add any coolant because it is always a little above the full mark. The truck is not a daily driver. It will sit a week at the time sometimes, not always. I'm not running any tunes because I don't have the studs.
Are you saying that the level stays the same, even after you change a filter? But it is not increasing, correct?
If that is what you are saying, I think it is simply that the coolant filter does not hold very much coolant. It is about a pint can, but inside that is the element and metal ends. Maybe 1/2 or 3/4 of a pint. The degas bottle is large, and a pint won't make a big difference on the level.
Or if it is increasing in level, give us some idea of how much and how often.
Also, the way that degas bottle sits, if your truck is a tiny bit out of level, it shows a big change on the bottle.
It doesn't smell like diesel. This morning the level was about an half inch above the line. I drove it around today & got the temps up & later after it had cooled off (4 hours) the level is 1 1/4 inch above the line. Everything seems fine but I know this is not rite.
I'm going to second what Bill said or is suggesting. Try parking the truck in the same exact spot each time you check it. The degas bottle is wider than it is tall...so it doesn't take much angle difference to make it look like a huge gain. If it doesn't smell like diesel and doesn't look like a chocolate milkshake...I wouldn't get really excited. Or at least not until you can confirm that it's making water/coolant.
When I had air in the system I would see periodic level increases, After a while they would go back down (and I am not trying to doubt what you are saying!).
Also, why do you run the level so high? The max recommended level is at the minimum level mark.
Okay. I trust you, I guess. The only fluids that can add volume to your coolant are motor oil, diesel oil, transmission fluid, or air. Of the first three, it only takes very small quantities to make an ugly mess. Air of course will degas.
So there are your possible issues. Keep an eye on it.
Well then you have cracked heads simple and odds are its Diesel Fuel since oil would be Obvious mess and it should puke every so often when it gets to full
what these guys are saying about coolant leval is very true I know my coolant leval be high one day and low the next if I check it to soon after driving it
IMO you need 12 hour cooldown and check coolant leval then
