Last Sunday we got the new engine installed. There where some snags with the clutch and flywheel. Turns out the flywheel I found is for a 11" and my truck and new clutch kit is a 12", bolt patterns are different. To make a long story short we "Franken-Clutch" with the parts from the Craigs List flywheel and clutch and my new replacement clutch kit from Napa.
The engine is in and bolted to the bell housing and the perches but I still have to put everything else together before I can start it up.
A very special thanks go to HIO Silver and Old Style who stopped by and helped muscle the motor in place on a picture perfect Sunday. Thanks guys! You totally rock!
I had my GoPro camera taped to the windsheild so I may render a time laps video but I'm still working on that.
One of the great things in working on these trucks is that there is room to get in there!
When I was working on the yellow truck, after pulling the P/S, A/C and fan, I was inside the engine bay and standing on the ground. And I'm a big boy...
It was a good way to spend a Sunday! All in all I'd say it went pretty smoothly. Kinda tight between the pilot alignment and the mount studs to the perches; as per normal. But friends and a little force was all it took!!!
Glad I was underneath and safe from the camera.... Well at least till the video comes out.
Thanks Mike, I used your pumpkin as my reference although I went on a slightly different direction on my build, you had a lot of influence on this project. Yes I can't wait, I woke up at 5:30 AM on Sunday to get this started, On my way to the shop in a few....
Don't want to step on Steve's thread, just want to thank Steve and OldStyle for the kind words about the Pumpkin.
OldStyle and HIO, reps to both of you for being there when needed to help a fellow FTE'er.
Oops, tried to rep HIO but I gotta spread it around some.

We appreciate the recognition Mike! That's what FTE is all about... Steve even wore his FTE duds under this coveralls.

Yep, that little bugger was snapping away in time lapse mode. It'll be interesting for sure.
We had some head scratching moments (clutch!) but all it all it went relatively smooth. Though it looks like I'm sitting there, my leg and foot is keeping the engine aligned. We dang near all had a truckgasm when the engine mounts slid home! Wooohoooo!

Steve, gotta get the 'Cane runnin cuz here comes momma's day!
I found it about a mile away on the street and it's pretty beat up. This is the clutch arm bracket that I could not find, it must have fallen off my truck during transport to the detail shop. The good news is that I ordered a replacement from JBG, the bad news is it wont be here until next week. I may just put the old one in just to test the clutch and replace it when the new one arrives.
Last night i managed to get a little more work done on Candy Cane, I got the radiator, alternator, power steering, and air conditioning installed. I'll do some more work on it tonight and if I'm lucky I might be able to even start it up!

Holy frijole! Mystery solved. Good job knowing what route the flatbed took. I wouldda wrote it off. Yep, I'd re-install it for a short-term fix since ya got a replacement on the way.
Btw, for those of ya who run FEs with a manual, the clutch bracket mounts on the block rather than on the bellhousing as with the 351M/400. According to ND, there were only a few OEM available so it's pretty much a JY-sourced part.
EDIT: Lemme clarify, the bracket for the FE is hard to find but the 351M400 bracket is available in the aftermarket.
Work schedule has been pretty busy this week and with Mothers day on Sunday my time has been limited but I have been pecking away at the engine all week and yesterday I got it started! I didn't have time to tweak the timing so the engine is running very rough, I think I ether have a firing order issue or really bad timing.
With my compression gauge I set the #1 for TDC (Or close to it) and pointed the rotor to the #1 plug wire but it doesn't feel right so I really think it may be a firing order problem. My day started at 5AM so I hope to get back to it today after work and all day Saturday then on Sunday I'll be my wife's b***h all day. She already has a long list of Honey-Do's for me.
Just dote on her til she's sick of you pestering her. She'll send you outside by 11 to be rid of you. You'll be expected back by 5 to take her to dinner.
