Lunchtime! Good progress so far. Removed P/S, A/C, ALT, Shroud, Water pump. Bagged and marked small parts, Made a huge mess on my shop floor that I will have to clean. I hope to get everything off today for removal Sunday. If all goes well and I get in the groove I'll pull it out today. (Well See)
Stuffing my face with a Sourdough Jack and Big Soda for caffeine and sugar rush as I type! BTW listening to late 70's hits on my I tunes pumped out to the speakers in the shop while working on a vintage 70's vehicle, This is great!
Don't forget you will need to have something ready to hold/support the front of the tranny up when you pull the engine. Since you will be moving the chassis around later I would have a second jack or blocking ready, then use a cable or chain to replace that with. The hood hinges, near the firewall, down to the top trans bolts works well.
Sounds like you are making quick work out of it! You might pull the water pump to give yourself more room for extraction. More of a mess but the snout won't want to hang on the radiator support.
.
Water pump removed. Now I have a problem, the vibration damper is on there really good. I'm using all genuine Snap On Tools so no cheap stuff and that damper is not budging. I hit it a few times with a mallet now I'm going to spray it with WD40. Any suggestions?
Bolt was easy, I found some PB Penetrating spray and used a 1/4 can on it with my puller still on it. I'm going to remove the exhaust manifold bolts while that stuff works.
Funny you mentioned the washer. When I removed the bolt I looked into the damper and all I saw was gunk and goo. I didn't see the washer. I removed my puller and there it was stuck to the center bolt of the puller. Embarrassing pix to follow when I get home.
Power steering, AC, Alternator, Waster Pump and some other stuff removed.
This is where I was at lunchtime.
This was my only problem today. I could not get the vibration damper off. I used a big breaker bar with a jack handle and still no luck just to find out later that I didn't see the washer (As Old Style pointed out) because of all the gunk I couldn't see it. Once removed it was easy.
It wasn't easy to get that washer off my puller. Looks like I'll need a new washer.
Progress.
Cleaned up for the evening. Tomorrow I will need to drain the oil and then unbolt the motor mounts and bell housing. Which one do I unbolt first?
Torque converter, mounts, bell housing. Glad you got the balancer off. I never pulled an engine out of a lifted truck. If you are using a cherry picker make sure the legs are extended out fully; you don't want it to "over center" and tip over.
You made good progress today! Thanks for the pictures!

I have a 4 speed and a fork lift as the cherry picker.

Thanks Glen, I was kinda hoping to get the engine out but I ran out of fuel. You know when you get to the state of just starring at it and thinking of what you have to do. That's when I'll call it a day. I'm actually on schedule so far.
