I know that's gonna be a purty engine when all is said and done. Ya thinking of any new eye candy??
I gave the engine project a lot of thought over the weeks. I was going to go all out and get a 460 and dress it up with all the goodies to just a doing a lower end fix. I finally decided to keep it original and keep the 400 as is with a few exceptions. It will have a Edelbrock intake and carburetor but I'll paint it Ford blue along with the block. I may even order some factory re-print stickers from Dennis Carpenter for the valve covers. I want to keep it as original as I can or at least period correct. The big thing I'll do under the hood is cleaning, painting and dressing up the wire harness. It will looks really good. The real eye candy will be for the paint!

Looks like Ill get it started next weekend as my lovely wife reminded me that its Easter weekend so I have family stuff to do but I'll get it on the engine stand at least and get all my new parts in order.

The good thing is that you don't need to be in a hurry. Glad to see your project moving along!

I was going to pull the mid-ship tank, but my wife reminded me that it's time for The Masters!

I did manage to escape for a few hours today so I took my 2 Boys and headed to my shop to unpack the engine and make some room and get organized. I have all my parts except a few things like more antifreeze and engine oil. Any recommendations on what type of engine oil for the break in period?

Unpacked and on the engine stand.

Made an out of the way place to keep the engine and parts so I can have room to work and my fellow colleagues wont get too upset with me.

Another weekend passes by and I haven't started on the project yet. Last Thursday I tweaked my back pretty good so I'm confined to the sofa while I heal.

I plan on starting next weekend. The new engine is on the stand at my shop covered up and since I have been delayed is there anything I should do to it so it will preserve better? I thought about getting some engine oil and "Painting" the engine components just to keep it damp. The plan is to do a removal and start cleaning next weekend, Clean, detail and assemble the following weekend then install the weekend after that. Locals are welcome to help if so inclined.

Storage? Dry machined surfaces could use some WD-40. I'd sleeve a big ol' trashbag over it and use a twist-tie to seal it... It'll keep airborne grit and dust at bay.

Hmmm... your engine install and my calendar look like they're sync'ed up.

I would definitely put a plastic bag over the engine. It is a small thing, but could help keep dust and any other stray, evil contaminants away. It sure is nice to see a fresh engine just sitting there on a stand. The anticipation is half the fun.

The "shop" is where you work? If that was me I wouldn't be getting too much work done.

Luckily I work out in the field mostly otherwise I wouldn't get anything done with my truck sitting inside just a few feet away from me. However I do plan on having a few long days at work.

Subscribing. I live and breathe engines. Favorite thing out of all the different fields I could specialize in when I'm done in college.

Be glad to drop by and help if you were a bit closer. 80-90mi round trip is rough on my wallet right now! But if you find you will only have your own 2 hands I can be there in 1 & 1/2 hours to lend mine to the effort....

Thanks Glen!

Here's the latest. Today I drove my truck for work and then near the end of the day I drove it into the shop. A few of my fellow co-workers helped me remove the hood and arrange the shop to accommodate the project. I'm sure going to miss driving my truck for the next few weeks. I start Saturday morning!

Here's the latest pix.

I'm so confused, I don't know weather I'm coming or going!
