The Flywheel was a Craigs List find so I'm not sure what brand it is, I'm really just happy to find one. The seller said he had it machined and looking at the photos it looks like it.
A productive weekend and a very special thanks to HIO Silver (to the rescue) for stopping by and helping with some of the detail work. Saturday we cleaned parts and HIO Silver stripped the paint off the valve covers and oil pan. Also we cleaned all the brackets and other accessories to ready them for paint. I started installing some of the engine components such as timing chain cover, water pump, oil pump, etc... During the week I'll start the painting of the engine and it's accessories.
We where so busy working and in the groove I didn't take as many photos as I normally would but I did manage to squeeze off a few.
Looking good! What did you use, I mean HIO use to strip the paint off of your valve covers and oil pan?
We used a paint remover made by Kleenstrip. Get it at your local Home Depot. It's real nasty stuff ....get it on your skin and it'll start stinging in no time flat. After wiping off most of the bubbled paint with paper towels, a quick rinse and any remnant paint removed with Roloc discs on die grinder.
I've been working on the engine during the week after work. So far I have most of the engine components installed and I have the engine painted. I'm going to leave the intake manifold as is. It makes a nice contrast to all the blue. I ran across a problem when I went to install the oil pump drive shaft. I discovered that its very difficult to drop it in from the top of the block so off with the oil pan!
Friday I will put the oil pan back on but before I do that I'll set up the #1 cylinder to TDC to make setting up the timing much more easier. I will do some painting of the engine compartments black components and eventually I will coat the chassis with a undercoating. I'm still waiting on some parts that should hopefully arrive on Friday.
Here's removing my freshly installed gasket seal to ready for a new gasket. I use a dental tool and it works great!
Looking good, Steve! Bet you can't wait to drive her out with that new engine purring away!
I see in one picture it looks like you painted the water neck on the water pump. I've had trouble with hoses blowing off painted water necks before. I'd sand the paint off where the hose contacts if it were me. None of my business, just my experience...
I thought someone would catch that one. I used the old thermostat housing as a paint mask, it will be replaced and I realized I forgot to mask off the lower hose as I was painting. Just another little thing I will fix.
