I stopped and shot a few pics of the rig this morning. I would say it is about 100 yards long. Plus they travel with a cherry picker lift and other assorted vehicles. They parked it right down the center of Leffingwell, taking up the center turn lane and one traffic lane in each direction.
Sean, do you have any idea why they were welding on it? Something must have broken.
I was surprised to see there were two tractors, side by side, pushing the rig, plus of course the one pulling. I knew from news coverage that there were 3 tractors. But I assumed they would be connected in a train fashion. In reality they are running side by side, each with a clevis mounted connecting tube running from the front of each tractor up to the jib on each side of rig.
I think you're right Bill. I bet a steel piece developed a crack, so they were adding gussets. That part of Pathfinder road in Rowland heights is hilly, I wish we could have spent a few more hours there to see it negotiate some turns and dips into the night.
Yeah Sean, I would love to see it actually moving. In fact, coming down Colima would have been fun to watch. The rig is impressive, but the rock itself is underwhelming IMO. In fact, to an amateur engineer observer, it looks like way more rig than necessary.
I wonder what time they will get under way. I have to go back tonight so the missus can see it.
Who ended up cooking, Bill? With Gene gone the brisket couldn't' be the same. Any event pics?
Will, the meeting was minimalistic this year. Just pizza and an anniversary cake. I think there were about 35 people. I didn't shoot any pics, but I'm sure there will be some posted in the gallery over on that site.
Next year will be the 10th, so I think they might blow it out a bit more for that.
Ford lovers delight.
Now that I've looked at it twice I can't tell if the brown one is a 91ish or not.
Guess it is.
