It is nice to get all the mileage you can but I am driving around a 8lb truck that is made to pull not for mileage and I didn't buy it to be a mileage getter.

right, but what's the difference between 8 and 9 mpg? about 12.5%
If you could save that in fuel every year I bet you'd throw some $ at it.

I've looked at doing the powerjection3 in Gert. Vacuum fed fuel delivery is not efficeint.

Actually Dustin I wouldn't waste my time or money trying to improve my mileage by 1 mpg not the way I use my truck. I have gotten as high as 20 with my truck and as low as 8 or 9 pulling my 30' 5th wheel bucking a head wind. Now if I were using this truck as a commuter then yeah that would help but most people don't buy these trucks for a commuter and if they do then they should know what the mileage is ahead of time. If I have to worry that much about my mileage then I will do like Tom said and buy a Prius. I honestly haven't checked my mileage in my truck in over a year. Life is too short to sweat that stuff IMHO.

To me, it depends on the miles I drive, the amount of time required and the cost of imroving the milage. If it's a $500 upgrade (say an ECU flash), takes me an hour, and it'd save me $600 in fuel costs in a year, why wouldn't you do it?

My fuel milage reasoning may have something to do with my TDI project I intend to begin this fall. I'm looking for a donor car right now, actually...

I can understand your TDI but that is car that is built for getting mileage. So if it isn't getting mileage then yeah I would be upset.

it's going in a '81 rabbit pickup. I'm shooting for 80 mpgs (~60% increase over factory).

That'd be like troy's truck peaking around 30mpgs...

I have never seen a single mod to our trucks that will increase mileage. There are so many variables it is virtually impossible to quantify. At least for the use that ours see. If one were used strictly as a commuter and you run the same route all the time you "might" see some gain from some mods but I would be willing to bet they would be minimal.

Don't get me wrong. I would love to get better mileage than I do but I make a lot of short trips and tow the camper or other trailers so my mileage always sucks. I have resigned myself to that. But I would be a moron if I didn't want better mileage.

Hi guys. Just got to the dells now.

If you are buying a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel truck JUST for mileage you might need your head examined.

You'd be a fool to not want better mileage out of what you drive especially with fuel prices the way they are now.
