You use mercon automatic transmission fluid, not gear oil. There's a fill plug on the drivers side, I believe, a suction gun works best.

It looks like a grease gun with a tube sticking out of the far end. It has a handle on the close end of the tube just like a grease gun. No pump handle on it like a grease gun though. They would know what you wanted at a parts store. Maybe someone else will suggest a better method of filling your transmission.

Actually you may be able to get a little tip style thing that screws on to a quart container and squeeze the fluid in.

I use the little nozzle tip that comes on the gear lube quarts. Take it off screw it onto the atf bottle and squeeze it in.
btw: your transmission does not use gear lube. Use regular dex/ merc trans fluid

He can do this, OR...

GO ahead and replace the shifter mount bushings ($15) and fill it from the tower...

2 birds killed with 1 stone..

He got his tranny filled, and the shifter isn't as loose as my ex wife...

Pull the shift boot back, there's 3 Torx head screws...GENTLY remove those....The shifter will then pull straight up and out...

On the side of the shifter, you'll notice a "Stud"....has 1-2 nuts (Yeah yeah...hardy har har....Funny)...

It's actually a tapered dowel pin...One side tighten the pin, the other looesens it..

Once you get that off, the actual shifter portion is gonna have an upperr bushing....

And the lower one goes in the tower/hole..

Once you pull everything, it's self explanitory...

And btw...Make sure its in neutral before removing the shifter...

I do exactly as you state, but go one step further: I add about a 1 foot long piece of 5/16" or 3/8" ID clear plastic tubing (available at most home centers) to the nozzle tip, so I can hold the bottle remotely and pour/squeeze the fluid in. Lots of times there is not sufficient room underneath in order to put the bottle in the right position to directly fill the transmission.

I like tacos.

Yup. Typical that trans is noisy when low on fluid.
Gear lube nozzle and some hose works great.
While you're under there don't just add fluid. Drain what's there, then put all new in.
It's cheap and easy to do.
