i have a small grease gun that i grease the universial joints and other suspension parts on my truck with. the only grease i have been able to find in a small cartridge for my gun is supertech or coastal. i wanted to find a synthetic grease but was unable to find any in the small cartridges, so i bought a container of valvoline synthetic. i heard you can reload an empty cartridge with new grease from a can, and i tried it unsucessfully. any tips? any ideas? or, where can i find this kind of grease in a small cartridge that would fit my gun? thanks for any ideas.
Move up to a full size grease gun, you can get whatever grease you want for them. They are not expensive.
Some grease guns have an air bleed fitting you could screw a grease zerk into and fill it from a larger grease gun. Just do not overfill, grease guns produce tremendous pressure.
I don't mess with those small grease guns and I quit messing with the large lever operated guns. I now have an air operated grease gun and it works great! One hand controls the nozzle and the other hand controls the grease gun. I still have full size lever operated guns for specialty lubricants if needed.

To refill the lever type, you have to pull the 'T' handle out the end as far as possible, and then lockk it in place using the groove in the 'T' handle and the end cap. You can then remove pumping end and the refill tube that is there, (which would normally be empty), and fill it with your preferred grease, using a putty knife or suitable other. Replace the refilled refill tube, screw on the lever & pump, and release the 'T' handle, which will release the spring loaded piston to push the grease at low pressure into the intake of the pump.
Worked for me...

I used the cartridge that was inside the greasegun- empty (mostly). After pulling back & retaining the plunger that pressurizes the grease, you can remove the empty cartridge, just as if you were going to replace it with a new one. Use a spatula or putty knife to load the new grease. It doesn't have to be packed tightly as the plunger & spring load will push it into the intake port of the piston-pump down at the other end of the cart.

thanks for the help. i like the pistol grip types one hand operation but the real reason i bought it is that it dont take up much space as i dont use it often and space is very valuable as i dont have any to speak of to begin with. i saw in the directions in a friends gun (same as mine but newer) that to refill the empty tube (no cartridge) to stick the end of the tube in the tub of grease and pull back the lever. that didnt work with the syn. grease so i will try to use a putty knife or stick to do this and knock the tube around a little. if this dosent work than i will have to continue using regular grease i guess. i dont have any problem with reg. grease just wanted to try something new. thanks guys!!
