I was referring to the factors that contribute to combustion. Air and heat. Compression is what builds the heat and air to accelerate and complete the burn process. The wrong amount of these elements will also cause an imbalance.
Thats why guys use to use propane. Complete the burn and cool the combustion chamber so they said. Some have had good luck but you don't here much about it now days.
I struggled through this for a number of years. I replaced everything I could and finally took it into a shop where they found a bad engine bay wiring harness. They replaced that and I haven't had a problem since.
here is an update.....ran compression on the passenger side this evening...
all cylinders ran 180-190 psi after the, "what the "..The tester is a new one "digital"from o-reilys...got a little upset (to say the least) and didnt do the drivers side (should have) but will test tomorrow and hopefully the tester is bad.....Other than a miss the truck seemed to run good and had power.....Is that possible with one whole bank that bad?? (surely not)
Ouch, hope it's the gauge. How many miles have you put on the motor Joey? Did you try dropping some oil in to see if compression came up?
It has less than 590....yes put oil in #5 and compression went to 999...off the scale on the guage.....I still can't believe every cylinder is bad on the passenger side.....

I'm not sure what kind of "break-in" is required, probably couple thousand miles, but I also wouldn't think it would be that low either... I'd venture to say the DS is about the same though. Was the motor warmed up? I have rebuilt 2 although I have not had "misses" after all the air was worked out though to even see what compression was after the builds.
Boy that is low. Get a new gauge with a dial and needle. I bet it reads true then. Even Harbor Frieght has them cheap. I can't wait to see the difference.

no the motor is cold at this point.....
new news-----GAUGE IS BAD!!!! we will have a new one tomorrow...put air to the gauge and @125psi it is only showing 40....now back to my miss
well, the saga continues.....in the search for the miss, found cylinder #5 had a hit and miss with compression...Hum,sticking valve??so we pull the head
sure enough, exhaust manifold wet with diesel, back to the builder with the head.....Man, I do love my truck
Great you found the cyclinder. What was the cause. The picture of the block was unclear. You think valve? I'm guessing thats what you think.
Chet
yes, I am believing exhaust valve, exhaust port and exhaust manifold on cylinder 5 is wet with diesel...Builder said nothing wrong with the head ..I have taken it to another shop for conformation at this point
Simply drying things up with some brake cleaner and pouring some fuel into the ports should verify a leaking valve. A good shop should be able to vacuum test the valves. Were the valves lapped to the seats?

Roland,
when it was found,we did a leak down test and it was coming out the exhaust....as far as lapping the valves, i don't know about when it was built but the builder did lap them when i took the head to him yesterday..
I have it at another shop for vacuum test today..
