Does the door data sticker have a code that says if you have a limited slip in rear or front? Am gonna drain and refill with synthetic gear lube and need to know if i need to add some additive for the diff. She dont want to move when it's 50 below zero. Hopefully no more of that this winter though.
Not 100% if its on the door tag but when you take the cover and look at the diff if theres no clutch plate in the middle of the spider gears then you most likely will have an open diff. I replaced mine with a limited slip from an explorer and I think it was like 4oz of friction modifier that has to be added to
If the AXLE code stamped on Rating/Warranty Plates (1959/80), printed on Certification Labels (1981 to date) begins with a letter: Limited Slip.
If the AXLE code begins with a number: No Limited Slip.
This pertains to the rear axle only.
The axle ID tags for Dana's, Sterling's, 8.8's and etc are located under one of the bolts used to retain the inspection cover to the housing.
Do not be surprised if the tag is missing, because this is a very common occurrence. Peeps forget to re-install the tag after bolting the cover back on.
9" rear axle: The rear axle tag is located under one of the bolts (usually at 5 o'clock) that retains the carrier (pumpkin) to the housing.
So i think i have an LS then cause i have a 3 digit code on my door tag and under AXLE it has H: Three digit code has nothing to do with Limited Slip, only the H2 does
AXLE code H2J
H2 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.50-1 / LIMITED SLIP // J = Power Steering.
