differential

Does anyone know what kind of differential comes in the 1996 Eddie Bauer ....I was told conflicting things....I was told that most of the earlier built 96s had an open diffential and to boost sales for the Eddie Bauer they added the limited slip to the later edition...
is there an easy way to eyeball it to tell?

The tag under one of your diff. cover bolts may tell you.In the past a limited slip 3.75 was marked 3L.75 on the tag.Not pos.if ford still does this.

The tag in your driver's door jamb will list a code for axle. If it starts in a D you definately have a limited slip. I think there are other codes that could also be a limited slip as well. A D2 indicates an LS 4.10, a D4 indicates an LS 3.73. If it is a 72 or 74 then it is open.
