That explains things. I was trying to remove just the plastic. Didn't realized there was more to it. What bolts do I need to remove? I was about to trim the metal lip the door seal sits on so I could reach the screws. Lol
Well you will need to strip the dash bare. Remove the radio, unscrew the heater panel, glove box, instrument custer, remove both headlamp and wiper switches, remove the wiring harness attachments, there will be several plastic keepers, wire ties etc holding the wiring to the dash support. Remove ash tray etc...
Where the dash speaker mount is, you will have to unbolt that from either the front or the back from the main support. There is a small hex headed screw that hooks the dash support to the steering column/pedal support bracket that needs to come out. You may need to lower the steering column to reach it. There are two lower support arms that need to be unbolted. One on either side of the ash tray.
Then remove the four 10mm bolts, two on each side. The dash assymbly should then move up and out to remove it through one of the doors.
When you are done, your cab should look something like this...
Damn...did I just hijack this whole thread. Not my intention at all. Thanks 81-F-150-Explorer. You know my truck looks just like the one you pictured. I got my dash plastic repainted and started to put it back together but ran out of daylight. Hopefully tomorrow I will get the dash put back together and the rest of the plastics in. Then I can put the seat back in.
